What about our base camp? LOKI Expedition Icarus. In addition to staying there for the duration of the event, we were going to use it as a studio! We planned to record a series of podcasts to spread the word about this region and this extraordinary event.
As is often the case, Jessyca accompanied me to take pictures during this long weekend while enjoying the salty sea air. We drove from Quebec City to Percé, where our event coverage would take place.
Driving through the beautiful landscapes by the sea was soothing and rejuvenating. We were also lucky enough to see a few whales in the distance. As we approached Murdochville, we couldn't help but enter the town to admire it in its summertime glory. Indeed, when we last visited in March for our skiing adventure... Houses were covered with snow!
This region is as beautiful in summer as in winter. When we arrived in Percé, very late at night, we quickly settled down to sleep because the weekend was going to be hectic. It is always a bonus to have your base camp with you. As soon as we woke up in the morning, we had breakfast, eggs, toast, coffee... and we headed directly to the race site to meet the runners.
Before starting our event coverage, my colleague Marie-Eve and I had the opportunity to do a video conference interview for a newspaper. Comfortably settled in our studio, we connected our computer to a signal whose strength was boosted by the Expedition antenna for a flawless experience.
We also made the most of our visit to the area by taking a little boat trip to an island where one of the race events was going to take place in a landscape that was... crazy! Jess and I then participated in a 7 km race in these breathtaking landscapes. After this long day, we headed to Fisherman's Beach to be on site for the racing starts that would take place very early the next day. Again, the freedom to sleep anywhere with little setup time was really nice!
The game plan for the second day was quite busy, but we were always ready for the next step: racing start, sunrise, visit to the fishing boats, lunch, podcast recording... Each step followed seamlessly, thanks to LOKI and its many advantages.
Subsequently, we had to go on two other trips: one to get supplies and do interviews, the other to go directly to the dock. Completely self-sufficient thanks to the powerful batteries and solar panels, and with our water supply and fridge fully stocked, we settled on the dock for the rest of the "long weekend,"... A somewhat paradoxical expression in this case since there was so much to see and do that time seemed to slip through our fingers!
During the event, we had several guests in the LOKI to record our podcast episodes – 18 in all!
In the comfort of our booth, sheltered from the wind and rain, we had the pleasure of being "in the studio" while having a privileged view of the outside, the passers-by, and the finish line. What an experience! A base camp where you can sleep, eat and record podcasts without compromising anything, it's a perfect setup.
The possibilities are endless... You get even more ideas for your next trip!
